Klaviyo segments from quiz answers — automatic, retroactive, yours

Every quiz answer a visitor gives is stored on their Klaviyo profile as a property — the property name is your question, the value is the answer (for example Which metal do you prefer? = Silver). On top of that, PopupLift creates one dynamic Klaviyo segment per answer option, automatically.

What happens without you doing anything

When you publish a quiz popup (or connect Klaviyo while one is published), PopupLift creates segments named:

PopupLift · <your question> · <answer>

Because these are dynamic segments, Klaviyo keeps them up to date forever: every new signup joins the right segment the moment they answer — and the segments fill retroactively with every profile that ever gave that answer. There is no sync to wait for and nothing to maintain. Use them directly in campaigns and flows.

The one rule: don't rephrase after go-live

Segments and properties match your question and answer texts exactly, character by character. If you rephrase a question or an answer after go-live, new signups write a new property value — the old segment stops growing and a new one is created on the next publish. Fixing a typo before launch is fine; rewording a live quiz splits your audience.

Connecting your OWN existing segment

You may already have a segment like "Silver lovers" and want quiz answers to feed it. Klaviyo segments have no "add member" button — membership always comes from the segment's definition. So the way to connect is a one-time, 30-second edit in your segment:

  1. Open your segment in Klaviyo → Edit definition.
  2. Add an OR condition: Properties about someone<your question text> → equals → <the answer> (e.g. Which metal do you prefer? equals Silver).
  3. Save. Done — from now on (and retroactively) every visitor who picked that answer is part of your segment.

Segments vs. lists

PopupLift subscribes every lead to the one list you chose in the wizard — lists carry the consent and double-opt-in settings, and splitting leads across many lists would fragment exactly that. Audience targeting by answer is what the segments are for.
